Zoho or HubSpot for a Canadian SMB?
By Danny Malouin. Updated October 22, 2026. Reviewed every quarter.
Short answer. Pick Zoho if you want one affordable suite that runs the whole business, from CRM to books and payroll. Pick HubSpot if marketing and sales drive your growth and you are ready to pay more for the tool your team will adopt fastest. Both now host data in Canada.
We implement both, and any other platform. Neither vendor paid for or reviewed this guide. Looking beyond these two? See our full CRM comparison.
At a glance
Per seat per month, billed yearly, plus a $1,500 US onboarding fee.[2]
Zoho CRM is free for 3 users. HubSpot’s free CRM covers 2 users with unlimited contacts.[1][2]
Both vendors show prices in US dollars by default and change them often. Treat these as orders of magnitude and confirm at checkout.
Side by side
| Zoho | HubSpot | |
|---|---|---|
Model | A full suite: CRM, books, HR, payroll, projects, support | A customer platform: marketing, sales, service, content |
Price | Low per user. Zoho One covers 45+ apps per employee | Higher per seat. Professional plans add onboarding fees |
Ease of use | Powerful but takes setup to feel simple | The easiest CRM for teams to adopt |
Marketing | Good, spread across several apps | Best in class, all in one place |
Data in Canada | Montreal and Toronto data centres since 2023[4] | Canada listed as a hosting region[5] |
French | Full French interface | French interface and support[8] |
Accounting | Zoho Books files GST and QST[6] | QuickBooks Online sync, but tax on HubSpot invoices fails for non-US accounts[7] |
When Zoho is the better fit
Every employee needs access
Zoho One licenses the whole company for a flat price per employee.[10]
You want one system
CRM, invoicing, inventory, HR and payroll in one place, with one login.
When HubSpot is the better fit
Marketing drives revenue
Email, landing pages, ads, SEO and attribution live in one clean tool.
Your team resists new tools
HubSpot is the easiest to learn. A CRM nobody uses is worth nothing.
You plan to grow fast
The ecosystem of apps and partners is the largest in the category.
What matters in Québec
Law 25. Personal data leaving Québec needs a privacy assessment first. Both platforms can now host your data in Canada, which makes that assessment simpler. It does not remove it: support teams and subcontractors abroad can still access data.
French. Both interfaces work in French. Your own fields, emails and templates still have to be translated by you.
Accounting. If you invoice from the CRM, check GST and QST handling before you sign. Zoho Books does it natively. HubSpot’s QuickBooks sync does not handle tax on HubSpot invoices for Canadian accounts.[7]
Hosting in Canada is a good start for Law 25. It is not the whole answer.
The costs nobody mentions
Onboarding fees
$1,500 US for Sales Hub Professional, $3,000 US for Marketing Hub Professional. Annual commitment required.[2][3]
Setup time
Zoho can do almost anything. Getting there takes configuration and someone who knows the suite.
Your own time
Cleaning data and training the team cost more than the licence in year one.
How to decide
Map your process first
List how a lead becomes a paid invoice today. The tool should fit that path.
Count who needs access
Few sales users favour HubSpot. A whole company favours Zoho One.
Check accounting
Decide where invoices and taxes live before you pick the CRM.
Price three years
Licences, onboarding, AI usage and growth in seats, not just month one.
